The nautilus belongs to the carnivorous marine mollusc families. It lives in the shelter of its shell and feeds during the day on invertebrates which it can detect using its sense of smell. Its short, non-suckered tentacles around its mouth are used to catch its prey. Its digestive system has a crop, which allows it to store food for several days.
