The monarch is a large butterfly whose wingspan can reach up to 12 cm and which is easily recognizable by its orange, veined and black-edged wing pattern. The vivid colors with which this species is endowed are supposed to serve as a warning to predators. This butterfly is also famous for its large-scale migrations across America, which brings millions of its kind together twice a year.
