Provides a hands-on understanding of the structure of a clock, helping children to familiarise themselves with the basic notions of learning how to tell the time. Inspired by the Montessori Methodology.


What children learn?

CONTENT:

*   -  A wooden clock (22,4 cm) that indicates the minutes on the dial and the hours on the inside. 


*   -  Two blue pieces of 30 minutes. 

*   -  Four yellow pieces of 15 minutes. 

*   -  Twelve green pieces of 5 minutes. 

*   -  Arrow or short needle to show the hour. 

*   -  Arrow or long needle to show the minutes.

Recommended Age 3 to 6 years. 

This wooden material, inspired by the Montessori Methodology, helps little ones to understand the composition of one hour and understand the structure of the clock in a hands-on way. 
It helps them to acquire the following basic notions: 
-  Count up to 60 
-  Count in 5s 
-  Learn that one hour: 

* comprises 60 minutes
* comprises 4 quarters of 15 minutes
* comprises 2 halves of 30 minutes
* comprises 12 fractions of 5 minutes

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
    * To learn to break down the hour into fractions of 5, 15 and 30 minutes 

    * To understand the structure of a clock 

    * To understand the time on an analogue clock 

    * To learn to tell the time on an analogue clock 

    * To develop attention and observation 

    * To improve mathematical logic intelligence

GAME AND ACTIVITY INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Count the minutes one by one, on the dial of the clock. 

2. Count the minutes in fives, on the dial of the clock. 

3. Compose the hour with the twelve fractions of 5 minutes (green pieces) 

4. On the green pieces, compose the hour with the four quarters of an hour or fractions 
of 15 minutes (yellow pieces) 

5. On the yellow pieces, compose the hour with the two halves of an hour or fractions 
of 30 minutes (blue pieces) 

6. Break down the hour (empty the clock), and compose it again by starting with the 
blue pieces, then the yellow and finally the green. 

7. Compose the hour using pieces of two colours (blue and yellow, blue and green, 
green and yellow). 

8. Compose the hour using pieces of the three colours (blue, yellow and green). 

9. Empty the clock, place the two arrows or needles and practise the time starting with: 
the full hours, half past, quarter past and quarter to, until saying the hours and minutes in fives.
